Madagascar President, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, will be among other heads of state at the burial of President Michael Sata on Tuesday 11th November. South Africa will be represented by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, Minister of International Relations & Cooperation Ms. Maite Nkoana-Mashabane and First Lady Mrs. Zuma while Swaziland will send its Prime Minister Mr. Barnabas Sibusiso Dlamini who will be accompanied by five senior government officials.
A couple of diplomatic missions accredited to Zambia and resident in South Africa will represent their respective countries at the burial.
Meanwhile, various dignitaries and individuals from various walks of life have continued paying their last respects to the late President who died in London on 28th October, 2014. The book of condolences at the High Commission of the Republic of Zambia in Pretoria remains open where more representatives from diplomatic Missions represented in South Africa have continued expressing their sympathies. These include Sudan, Australia, Suriname Tanzania, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Malawi, Venezuela, Trinidad & Tobago, Egypt, Gabon, Brazil, Lesotho, Norway, the United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, Saharawi, China, Serbia, Thailand, Canada.

Others are Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire, Ukraine, Slovak Republic, Kenya, Namibia, Bulgaria, Japan, Cuba, Poland, New Zealand, Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, Guyana, Jamaica, Madagascar, Indonesia, Benin, Burkina Faso, Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, Niger, Republic of Korea, Liberia, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Republic of the Sudan, Australia, UNHCR and South Africa’s Department of International Relations & Cooperation. Zambians resident or visiting South Africa have also signed the book.


A book of condolences for our late President, His Excellency Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata has been opened at the Zambia High Commission, 570 Ziervogel Street (off Hamilton Street), Arcadia, Pretoria. The book will remain open for the entire period of national mourning which runs until 17th November, 2014. Signing of the book will take place from 10:00 to 13:00, and 14:00 to 16:00 hours, on Monday through to Friday.

The remains of our beloved President are expected to arrive in Lusaka on Saturday, 1st November, 2014 and the body will be taken to Mulungushi International Conference Centre where it will lie in state before burial which is expected to take place on 11th November, 2014 at Embassy Park in Lusaka.

Other funeral and burial details will follow in due course.

The High Commission wishes to encourage all Zambians to gather at their convenience in their respective areas and hold memorial services in honour of our beloved departed President.


Lusaka, October 30, ZANIS—The body of the late President Michael Sata, who died on Tuesday night in London, will arrive in Zambia on Saturday 1st November, 2014.
Secretary to the Cabinet Roland Msiska has announced the development at press briefing in Lusaka today.
Dr. Msiska said the body will arrive at the Kenneth Kaunda International airport at 10:00 hours.
He said Acting President Guy Scott will lead government officials, military personnel and family members among other several mourners to receive the body at the airport.
He explained that a military escort will thereafter lead the cortege to Mulungushi International Conference Center where the Acting President is expected to lay a wreath in a brief wreath laying ceremony.
Dr. Msiska said the body of the late President will then lie in state at the Mulungushi International Conference Center until Sunday 9th November, 2014.
The Secretary to the Cabinet also announced that burial of the late President will take place on Tuesday, 11th November, 2014 at the Embassy Park opposite Cabinet office in Lusaka.
He said body viewing will commence on Sunday 2nd November 2014 adding that members of the public were encouraged to pay their last respects to the late President at the Mulungushi International Conference Center in Lusaka.
Dr. Msiska said the burial will be preceded by a requiem church service at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
He also said there will be a thanksgiving ceremony at parliament building on Monday 10th November, 2014 at 10:00 hours.
Meanwhile, Dr. Msiska disclosed that books of condolences will be opened today at Government House in Lusaka, provincial administration in the provinces and in Zambian missions abroad.
Dr. Msiska said government has also earmarked Belvedere lodge in Lusaka as the funeral place for close relatives while mourners are encouraged to assemble at the Agricultural and Commercial show grounds where sermons will be conducted and solemn music played.

Only upon confirmation of the deposit with and individual’s name as reference, will a particular document or service be rendered.
