Zambia has called on South Africa to consider removing non-tarrif barriers that are preventing Zambian goods and products.
Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa His Excellency Mr. Emmanuel Mwamba says the current trade imbalance between the two countries would not be reduced when South Africa gives access to its markets as Zambia does to its products.
Mr. Mwamba observed that the stringent certification processes followed in South Africa were posing challenges to many Zambian companies to export to goods and services to that country, hence, causing trade imbalances.
He was speaking in Johannesburg, South Africa, when he conducted a familiarization tour accompanied by officials from the Zambia Development Agency at Trade Kings Limited.
Trade Kings has set up a manufacturing plant for its confectioneries and a distribution centre for its products manufactured in Zambia.
The team was conducting industry tours ahead of the Business Forum Conference scheduled for 1St November 2017
The Zambian High Commission, Zambia Development Agency, Department of Trade and Industry and the Zambia- South Africa business Forum are hosting a “Invest in Zambia” forum which has attracted 300 investment houses and companies.
Mr Mwamba said it was important that South African reciprocated special consideration for Zambian companies doing business in that country as was the case with South African companies doing business in Zambia.
However, he said the High Commission would ensure that the challenges faced by Zambian business entities trying to set up plants or companies in South Africa were addressed following the on-going government to government bilateral talks that have been taking place between the two countries.
And Trade Kings South African branch General Manager Abdur Gangat says his company has been producing high quality products that have met international standards.
He observed that Trade Kings products were competing fairly in other SADC countries as the company was not having difficulties to export to those countries following the investor-friendly certification processes.
