PRETORIA – Wednesday, 10th July, 2014 – ZAMBIA’S High Commissioner to South Africa, Mr. Muyeba Chikonde, has urged young people to be patriotic and refrain from taking part in activities aimed at tarnishing the good image of Zambia to the outside world.
His Excellency Chikonde has also observed that it was unfortunate that currently there were campaigns to taint the country’s image being orchestrated by Zambians themselves.
He said every Zambian should realise that they were active participants in the governance system of the country and should ensure that they made responsible decisions at all time as their actions had a bearing on the economic and political stability of the country.
The High Commissioner was speaking when a group of ‘A’ Level pupils and members of staff from Chengelo School in Zambia paid a courtesy call on him at the Zambian Chancery in Pretoria.
“Please be mindful of the harm you might be causing to the nation by being careless with your conduct through speech or what you post in your discussions through online publications.”
His Excellency Chikonde noted that Zambia’s diplomacy has evolved over the years and that all those sent to serve the country outside Zambia should now expect to work hard and march the tasks that come with the job.
He pointed out that the Zambian Mission in South Africa has achieved a good number of its objectives set out in its annual work plans and that he was proud that the achievements have contributed to national policy formulation through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He said the Mission’s aim was to be a model and contribute to policy innovation that will translate into real and practical strategies that will in turn enhance efficiency for all of Zambia’s Missions and thereby contribute to the quality of life for the citizens.
